2004
 |
WebMomz is PROUD to
announce that the winner of our first WebMomz Business
Grant is Christy Spivey of Austin, TX. Besides having a solid 23 page business
plan and extensive market research, Christy's business
was built as a way to help raise awareness and funds
for cancer.
We admire Christy's courage, spirit, and business
savvy.
CONGRATULATIONS CHRISTY!
WHO IS CHRISTY SPIVEY? She is a
PhD candidate/instructor at the University of Austin,
Texas. |
WHAT COMPANY DID
SHE START?
Pinky & John specializes in designing high end jewelry
that incorporate semi-precious stones as well as Swarovski
Crystals and other high-quality materials. Christy was
a graduate student with little income. With the help
of her sister's marketing savvy, Christy has turned
her dream of owning a jewelry business, a reality. |

WHY
SHE STARTED THE BUSINESS
She started her company, Pinky & John as a way to
honor her parents. Sadly, both of Christy's parents
passed away from cancer. Her father passed away when
she was only 12 years old. Then thirteen years later,
she also lost her mother to cancer when Christy turned
25.
Christy says that starting the business was a way
for her to combine her artistic talent with my desire
to contribute to the fight against cancer as a tribute
to my parents. |
MAKING A DIFFERENCE FOR CANCER VICTIMS
To raise awareness and contribute to the fight against cancer,
Christy donates five percent of the proceeds on all jewelry
sales to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. In particular, she
donates a higher percentage of proceeds from the sales of
her signature pieces, the Awareness Bracelet.
