Meet the 2005 WebMomz $500
Grant Winner!
WebMomz
is PROUD to announce that the winner of our 2005 $500 WebMomz
Business Grant is Destenie Vital of Lake Charles, LA
.
Destenie Vital is truly a story of success and determination.
As a single mother, at the age of 22, she had to go on 24
hour bed rest to save her baby's life. That meant quitting
her job, her only source of income.
After her baby girl was born health, Destenie was determined
to find a way to work at home and be with her child.
WHY SHE STARTED THE BUSINESS
You never know when ideas for a business will strike, such
was the case with Destenie. While attending a friend's baby
shower, friends remarked at the innovative baby gift basket
she made for her girlfriend. In fact, the unique baby basket
was such a hit that her friends said she should go into
business.
And so she put together some baskets. At craft shows, with
her baby at her side, her Louisiana Cajun style items drew
a lot of interest.
Destenie names her new business, Cher Bebe, a common Cajun-French
phrase meaning dear baby.
HER 3 PRODUCT OFFERINGS
Her goal is to offer unique Cajun/Creole culture to create
classic gifts and gift baskets for both baby and corporate
office.

Acadian and cher bebe, etc.
2.)A small line of baby gift baskets
and diaper cakes.
3.) Cajun/Creole food gift baskets
decorated with crawfish Mardi Gras beads, Spanish
moss, and La. Postcards. All gift basket and diaper
cake bows will be hand made.
The basket to the left sells for $49.99, but
all gift baskets are one of a kind, and the one shown
is simply a representation, products and baskets will
slighty differ per order. |
At the time she started her business, she didnt own
a computer and was low on money because I had to quit her
job due to an extremely high risk pregnancy. She worked
on a demand basis due to my limited resources and used the
computers at the local library for email.
And with those limited resources, she managed, through
vigorous networking, to snag the interest of Nordstroms.
She donated diaper cakes and baby gift baskets on a local
morning radio show last year and it created quite a buzz
around the her business.
Destenie says she will use the grant money to build her
website and get some inventory for her new onesie line.
MAKING A DIFFERENCE FOR HER COMMUNITY
As part of a continued effort to give back to her community,
Destenie, gives donations to various womens clinics
in low income neighborhoods and pregnancy counseling services.
CONGRATULATIONS DESTENIE!
We admire Destenie's passion, courage, and unstoppable
determination.
