Unmarketing - it really works!  4

Posted on May 19th, 2007. About Copywriting, Internet Marketing, Recent Posts.

I was struck today while reading in one of the forums I frequent how some of us are so get so wrapped up in writing sales copy when we are marketing that we miss the point. We may be straying from what is really important - and that is real, genuine, from the heart sincerity. That’s not something you’ll find in a “sales message”.

That’s what you get when you truly connect to someone in your heart and express how you feel about them, what you admire about them, and positively reflect on that.

I had a great interview with TJ Rohleder, a famous direct response copywriter. The big reminder I got from TJ, is that the best marketing isn’t marketing at all, it’s not about “spiel” or knowing “words that sell”. It’s about knowing your customer, connecting to their heart, speaking to them in a real way, and saying how you can help.

This is my approach to business. Because of this, I find people are being attracted to me (pull marketing) versus me selling TO them (push marketing).

What do you do to truly connect from the heart with your customers?

Write Your Own Check!  1

Posted on May 18th, 2007. About Recent Posts, Success Principles.

Here’s a great tip from Brian Tracy on “Write Your Own Check!”. It was a powerful reminder about how the process of manifesting what you want in your life. Some people don’t know what they want. Others figure it out but don’t do anything about it. Then there are that select few that recognize what they want and then take action to make it happen.

Are you a dreamer or a DOer?

Here’s what Brian Tracy had to say

Would you like to make more money? Well, go to the nearest mirror and negotiate with your boss. The person in the mirror is the one who determines how much you will earn. You are the president of your personal company.

As the president of your personal company, you are in charge of every activity of your business. You are in charge of sales, marketing, production, quality control, distribution, and administration. You are in charge of your own training department, constantly working on yourself to increase the value of what you do so you can charge more for it in the marketplace. You are in charge of every aspect of your life, both personal and professional.

Now, here’s something you can do, starting immediately, to put this idea into action:

On the first day of each month, take out your checkbook and write a check for the amount of money you want to earn that month. Date it for the last day of the month. Make it payable to yourself. Sign it. Then, for the rest of the month, concentrate on figuring out how you are going to make payroll… just like a company president.

By making the decision to think of yourself not as an employee but as the president of your own organization, you have made the critical decision to become the primary creative force in your own life. You no longer see yourself as a victim or a passive recipient of what happens in the economy. You are an active agent. You are in charge.

Go out into the workplace and make your own life and your own living. Sell your services to the highest bidder and deliver the very best services possible. Instead of waiting for things to happen, or hoping that things will happen, make things happen.

===========

Has anyone ever tried this? What do you think? Cool idea huh?

The Rebirth of Internet Marketing  2

Have you read John Reese released new white paper on the Rebirth of Internet Marketing? He talks about the way the Internet marketing industry is changing.

Here are some of the key points John Reese makes about trends in Internet Marketing:

1) Markets are fragmenting. Niches are breaking up into 1000’s of mini-niches. Internet businesses can adapt, big business will suffer.
2) Pay per click costs will skyrocket. Businesses that depend on this will suffer. Depending on pay per click to be your main source of traffic is asking for trouble.
3) Businesses that don’t know how to survive these changes will go broke and shut down
4) Having a higher visitor value gives you the biggest chance of winning in the Internet game (bigger product funnel)
5) Selling junk won’t cut it, you need to have quality information that truly serves your market
6) Content rules. Give away your best stuff. Having lots of content helps you get ahead with SEO and with building customer trust.
7) Reverse squeeze page - give great content and say “if you want more great content like this sign up here”
8) Hype is out, Education and Entertainment Rules (I have seen this true in the speaking industry as well!)
People are bombarded with ads. Marketing is less effective. If you can entertain them and make them smile you cut thru the clutter.
9) Long sales letters are out - Hybrid salesletters that are short and combined with video convert better
10) Video is absolutely critical in your online marketing - it converts way better than text or audio
11) Internet marketers who know how to leverage the power of relationships will win
