Are you an Information Junkie?

Are you addicted to learning? I know I am. And it’s easy to buy books, tapes, and attend seminars just to get the thrill of learning something new. But the truth is that knowledge does nothing without application.

Now, have you ever been to a seminar and listened to a really amazing speaker that had you sitting on the edge of your seat ready to pay an ungodly amount of money for their super duper package?

Well, that’s something I was recently wrestling with. I attended the Dan Kennedy Superconference and one of the big internet marketing gurus (whose name shall not be mentioned to protect the innocent) had a mega high priced mentoring package that had me drooling.

The lure was the list of specific action steps and individual mentoring to lead you to “explode your profits” in 60 days or get your money back in full. I really, really had a hard time resisting. Even though it was a boatload of money, I kept thinking about the potential if I just knew those secrets and applied them.

After sleeping on it, talking with my business coach, and getting advice of some good friends, I finally was able to resist the temptation to buy.

I really know 90% of what they were teaching. The rest I have sitting right on my book shelf – it’s just waiting for me to read, learn, and apply it. And as far as support, all I have to do is tell my coach my plan, create action steps, and hold me accountable.

Are you a learning addict? Are you experiencing information overload? Do you really need to buy that new book or tape? What things have you learned that you still have left to get off your butt and do! Share your information addict thoughts here!

Boy are you speaking my language Kristie! I, like you, get enthralled and enthusiastic about new mentors, models and systems for growing my business. But I also have a shelfload of binders with great information that I have not even used half of.

I have recently taken an approach of moderation. I am only working with my coach, and disciplining myself to not get any “learning treats” until I finish some important writing projects and info products.

The only upside? When I get my infoproducts out there, hopefully I will run into a market of willing and eager customers like me who won’t mind dropping a dime or two in my bank account. And I do pay attention to the people who really make me drool through their excellent marketing materials. I plan to leverage their great models to watch my business grow.

It could be worse – we aren’t addicted to Valium or Crack!

I love the fact that we already have what we already need to know! I’ve been in Tom Antion’s mentoring program and it has really worked for me. One of the things Tom tells us is not to buy anything until we’ve checked with him!

Evertime I’ve been tempted I email him and each time he says,”No!” Instead he says I already have enough to work on and to keep doing what I’m doing.

Some of the things I’m tempted to purchase are his affiliates as well. That’s what I like about Tom-he’s an honest guy.

My friend is currently at a workshop at Atlanta. My advice to her was leave your credit card at home! It’s the only way to be safe when you’re drooling!

[...] A fellow MomMasterminds member Kristie Tamsevicius confessed recently about her addiction to learning. Is this even possible? Furthermore, isn’t learning a good thing? Well, not always. [...]

You really DON’T need to buy any more books or tapes. People love to know HOW to do something but rarely will DO IT. Because DOING IT takes effort. It’s easier to buy another tape than to actually do what people are teaching.

But the ones that DO are the ones who SUCCEED! That’s the simple (not so)secret.
