Why Windows Vista Sucks for Podcasts  (Leave a Comment)

Posted on April 17th, 2007. About Podcasting, Recent Posts.

I got a “lovely” note the other day from a listeners of my Speaker Success Talk Radio podcast. She basically was telling me that my podcastWindows Vista system.

“…what happened when I started to listen on a new laptop with Vista was disconcerting, to say the least! The ‘radio guy’ is interrupted by a blip of your intro, for starters, and then your intro seems to be chopped up and put back together in a
way that sounds all right but doesn’t make sense. Fortunately, the interview itself seems all right, but first impressions might put off anyone who listens with Vista.”

I listened to the podcast and couldn’t hear what she was talking about. Then I turned to my tech friend Lynette Chandler. She said it might be the flash player that Audio Acrobat uses that is being quirky for her in Vista.

I sent that listener the MP3 file and she didn’t hear any of the problems she heard before.

Just a word to the wise, if you are using Audio Acrobat for your player for web audio or podcasts, Vista people might not hear it correctly.

Why you Always Need a Plan B - Thinking on your feet when it matters.  1

Posted on February 2nd, 2007. About Podcasting.

Pulling hair outToday I had an interview with Andrea Nierenberg, the author of Million Dollar Networking. And I was a bit nervous. I am still kind of new to this podcasting and wanted to make sure to do it right. And so when I started to record the podcast interview and noticed I didn’t see audio, I got a bit nervous. I asked her if I could start again because I saw the equipment wasn’t working. And then when I saw it STILL wasn’t working I had one of those moments like that have on Jimmy Newtron where he grabs his head and says, “Think, THINK, T-H-I-N-K!!!”

And then I remembered I had my trusty Audio Acrobat recording line. So graciously Andrea agreed to let us start the interview a 3rd time. And thankfully I got the interview. Whew!

After the interview I looked and noticed my plug that is labled “insert this mike into the computer” was unplugged. HA! Nothing a little podcast interview checklist wouldn’t have helped me remember.

I tell you this story for a few reasons.

1) No one is perfect when you start new things. You have to be willing to try, jump in, make mistakes and learn
2) Having a back up plan really save you
3) Having a checklist can help you keep from forgetting!

Did you ever have a time when something didn’t work out and you had to save the situation? What did you do? Are you good at thinking on your feet? I’d love to hear your stories.

How to “ping” Itunes with new podcast episode  (Leave a Comment)

Posted on January 26th, 2007. About Podcasting, Recent Posts.

Here I was all excited that I was a “big girl” and publishing my 2nd podcast episode. I edited the podcast, uploaded it, made a post in my podcast category of my blog, and ran into Itunes to see if it recognized the new episode. I waited…. waiting some more, checked a few emails, okay… let’s just say that 24 hours later the episode still hadn’t posted.

So I called in my trusted podcasting coach Kelly McCausey, how got some things fixed for me.

I also Googled and found this great advice by Scott Bourne on how to ping Itunes when you post a new episode.

Cool tip Scott on how to ping Itunes, thanks! And great blog on podcasting on audio, video, and photography.

This cord goes where? Adventures in podcasting….  3

Posted on January 22nd, 2007. About Home Business, Podcasting, Recent Posts.

I am what you call technically challenged. Yes, I can create a killer looking website, but when it comes to working gizmos and gadgets, I need a little help. I am working on kicking up the quality of the recording of my new podcast, Speaker Success Talk Radio. My awesome podcasting coach, Kelly McCausey, tipped me off that getting the JK Inline patch would allow me to remove the hum from the phone line and make the volume of my voice and the guests voice be the same.

(If you are interested in podcasting and want to start a podcast, this podcasting course by Kelly shows you how!)

And so when my JK Inline patch came in the mail, I was so excited. Except I didn’t know what the heck to do with it. And so I packed up a box with my land line phone, assorted cords, my JK inline patch, 3 different headsets, and my laptop and headed off to Radio Shack. The manager there was so nice. I dumped out my box of stuff on the counter and said, “Can you help me hook this up and make it work?”

What a nice guy! He spent 20 minutes hooking up all the assorted cords and parts and actually did some test recordings till we got everything working. Now that’s service!

Anything worth doing well, is worth doing poorly at first until you learn the ropes. Have you ever been afraid to try something new in your business because you were afraid you didn’t know how or that you would look like a fool? Have you had a technology that had you baffled? Share your adventures in business here!

New tool for booking meetings or scheduling podcast guests  (Leave a Comment)

Posted on December 15th, 2006. About Cool Tools, Podcasting.

Contacting participants, scheduling times, and confirming times makes planning meetings, podcast interviews, or teleclasses a pain. Here’s a new meeting planning tool that makes it easy! Donna Gunter of Online Business Coaching Company shared this tip in Speaker Net News.

Meeting setup tip

Have you ever tried to set up a meeting and gotten overwhelmed with the volume of phone calls and or emails that ensued to schedule a time? Now, you can automate that process with this free online service, www.MeetingWizard.com. Once you set up an account, MeetingWizard will automatically send invitations to participants proposing alternate times, summarize their responses, update you on the results, send confirmations, and set optional reminders prior to meetings.

MeetingWizard requires only that you and your participants have access to email and a browser. It’s designed to be effective in more than 90% of meeting planning situations, and does not try to fulfill every possible need. However, it allows for enough flexibility to make changes, add personalized notes, make cancellations and handle most other situations that might arise.

Great tip Donna! Thanks! Has anyone used this or a similar tool to help with scheduling meetings or scheduling podcast guests?

Cool - Our local Church is Podcasting Now  2

Posted on December 10th, 2006. About Inspiration and Motivation, Podcasting.

This is so cool, I just found out the my local church, Joy Lutheran, is podcasting now! If you go to the Joy Lutheran website and click on the Joycast red button, you can hear the sermons.

When I see stuff like that, it takes me breath away. People using their gifts and technology to expand the outreach of life-changing messages.

To me, that’s what the net is about. Isn’t it cool how it helps us to touch one another and make a difference? Anyway, I just thought I’d share.

Why I REALLY Don’t Need to Buy Another Marketing Book…  9

I’m sure your library is probably as crazy as mine. But sometimes I think I have so many awesome resources, that I forget what I have. Someone once said that the only thing that will be different 10 years from now is the books you read, the people you meet, and the experiences you have.

I have more the enough books that I’ve read - that’s for sure. My goal for next year is to IMPLEMENT what I have read. No more learning (which will be hard - I love learning)

Well, here are the books I have in my library. I have read 80% of them. The others, need to sit down and read.

Is your library as big as this? - And there are LOTS of ebooks and books in the basement haven’t even accounted for here.
