Explode your Referrals!

I read this great idea in on how to get lots of referrals and I wanted to share. I have seen Amazon.com put this idea into play online as well. After hitting the checkout button, I was directed to list 5 names and emails of people who might be interested in this book also in exchange for a 10% discount on my order. Well who could resist that?

In 2004, I strategically raised my referral business by giving away low-end products in exchange for contact information and referrals. We designed a simple 4.5 x 5.5 card, Valuable Free Resources for You! that I include with handouts when speaking to target associations, such as the Society for Human Resources as well as others. Audiences comprised of decisions makers will receive the cards and complimentary products.

At the conclusion of my program, it is announced that “The first XX people (specify a number — usually about 60% of the group) who complete the
resource card and submit it after the meeting receive a free product (book, CD, tips booklet, etc.). Without fail, people swarm to the front of the room with their completed cards and receive a gift. A gift that has meaning and value to the recipient can persuade them to give their gift of opportunities for long-term business. Giving away product has paid me many times over in 2004.
