Recovering from Networking Memory Lapse
Posted on March 10, 2006 | No comments | Filed in UncategorizedLast week I was at a networking event. As soon as I walked in the door, I was greeted by a gentleman who was the host. Because I was still in a panic, “Oh my gosh, look at all these people. What will I say? Where should I go?” I forgot that I had met the gentleman.
About 10 minutes later I got into the swing of things and was networking the room and introduced myself AGAIN to the same gentleman. He screwed up his face and said, “I met you 5 minutes ago, don’t you remember?” - Boy did my face turn red.
Has that ever happened to you? I was talking with my business coach buddy, Mary Lou Williamson today who often does talks on networking and she gave me 2 awesome tips for what to do when you forget someone you’ve met before.
2 Ways to Save Face in Networking When you Don’t Remember Someone:
1) Your face looks familiar, can you refresh my memory where we met?
2) I meet so many people in the work I do, can you tell me again how we met?
