Holly Montague of Englewood,
Colorado
Company: Bring
on the Bell
Holly Montague of Englewood, Colorado first got the idea
for her after school program in March of 2006. As a director
of a preschool, Holly loved working with kids and was looking
for ways to boost her income. She had run an after school
program for 5 years and knew firsthand the challenges of
keeping kids engaged and happy after a long day of school.
She started looking for ideas of fun programs to use in
her after school program and found that none really existed.
That's when a light bulb went off and Holly saw an opportunity.
She really wanted to help children learn through playing.
And then Holly came up with the idea to start an after school
program called, "Bring on the Bell."
She came up with the name after thinking about how many
after school directors dread the sound of the bell ringing
when school was out. Holly says, "Typically kids are
wound up pretty tight when they get out of school. After
school directors have trouble channeling all the energy
kids have. I wanted a way to turn that around so that directors
would look forward to seeing the kids." That's how
Holly came up with the name, Bring on the Bell. The name
suggests a complete turnaround for directors who used her
program and started looking forward to the bell ringing
and the kids coming into their after school programs.
When asked what her reaction was to hearing she won the
Webmomz Business Grant was, Holly said, "I was very
surprised and happy when I got the news. I was so excited
that I called my mom immediately. I just put an application
in. I never really thought I'd win."
